The team ran a real retro every two weeks and actioned things. First place I have seen retros be worth the time.

When leadership changed, the whole vibe changed. Not worse, just different. Adjustment took a couple of quarters.

The manager remembered the little things - kids sick, moving weekend, a tough customer call. Made a difference.

The manager was good with the team but not good upwards. Our work often did not get the visibility it deserved.

You could take real vacation without the phone buzzing. Coverage was planned, not improvised.
